Meredith Model Portfolio Work Hudson Valley Photographer

When you’re as far behind on blogging as I am, you might as well get all the old stuff out the way.  Yes?  Ok good, glad we’re both on the same page. These shots are from a while ago as well.  Everyone say hello to Meredith, who is a local Hudson Valley model.  I’m not sure she really does much modeling anymore, but she was great when I had a chance to work with her in my studio.  This was another one of those shoots where I just really wanted to get in the studio and do some work.  There wasn’t a makeup artist involved, just me and my assistant, playing around and finding some fun looks. I liked how the shoot turned out overall, and I think I got some really pretty images for Meredith,

Kaitlyn Playing with Black and White Film

To be honest these shots are pretty old. I shot them when I was on one of my big film kicks.  I get in those moods sometimes.  I love the way film looks.  I also just adore being able to shoot Polaroids, and be able to show them to the model right then.  It’s crazy how that can change the dynamic of a shoot.  Suddenly it goes from photographer and model, to creator and co-creator.  I can’t explain why this changes things, but it does dramatically.

Suddenly when a model can see an image created right in front of their eyes they have a completely different outlook on the shoot.  They can see what they’re doing well, and what they are doing not so well.  Of course as the ph

Lindsey Vonn Editorial and Cover for Rhapsody Magazine

So this was certainly one of the bigger shoots that I did this year.  This was a full team effort, and I was so happy to get the chance to shoot a cover for a major publication like this.  Even better they wanted me to shoot a fashion editorial for the inside of the magazine.  This shoot was certainly intense for me.  I knew the creative director was going to be on set that day.  Not like that’s something new, but it always adds a bit of pressure when your client is right there with you on the shoot.  In reality he was awesome, and was extremely helpful on the shoot.  He had a real vision for what he wanted out of the shots, and he was helping us the whole time.

We started off the morning getting up super early a

Olive @ Wilhelmina

Olive @ Wilhelmina

I really loved working on this shoot. We basically just wanted to capture some of that great summer bohemian look. This was another quick shoot. Really simple looks, and nothing complicated. I also wanted to work some more with doing light leaks and some free lensing on this shoot.

I had found Olive on facebook, and I knew she would be perfect for what I had in mind. Not like this is some super crazy editorial. This was just fun creative work. Nothing crazy, super low key kind of work. It’s nice to have those kinds of shoots every once in a while to recharge the batteries.

I think any photographer knows that you can certainly get burned out quickly especially if it’s a lot of high stress gigs. They actually tak

Hudson Valley Photographer { Anna V Modeling Portfolio Work }

Here are a few quick shots I did with a local Hudson Valley model Anna. This was a really quick spur of the moment shoot. I basically just wanted to get behind my camera.  It had been too long.  In fairness too long for me is a few days.  When you love doing photography, it’s hard to be away from it for too long.  For this shoot I really didn’t have anything in particular in mind, I just wanted to try out some new techniques, and get some great images.

For the first look I knew I wanted to shoot on my black background.  I love the way this comes out.  It’s easy for black backdrops to look cheesy as all get out, but as long as your post work is interesting, it doesn’t look l

Hudson Valley Photographer { Kora Editorial for Jute Magazine }

Earlier this year I had an awesome chance to work on an editorial that i had been wanting to do for a very long time.  I had always wanted to shoot a seedy motel.  Now initially I wanted a sun drenched LA look to this shoot, with something that looked a bit more vintage, but in the end it was too hard to find a motel that would even let us shoot there.  You’d be shocked at how hard it is, to get people to take your money.  Seriously I wasn’t trying to do anything for trade, I just wanted them to let me shoot while I was paying for a room.  It was suprisingly ridiculous how scared people were about me doing an editorial.  I had one lady accuse me of trying to get away with having an orgy, and no

Triathlete magazine Hudson Valley Photographer

I had an awesome chance to work with one of the best triathlete/chef combos here in Hudson Valley.  I was super excited to be able to shoot for another magazine that you could actually pick off the shelf, and I was stoked when they picked me for this shoot.  Seeing as how I wanted to make sure that this shoot went well I actually went in advance to the venue to scope out some locations for the shoot.  Which gave me a great chance to meet and talk to who I was going to be shooting for the portrait.  David Dawson is both an instructor at Johnson and Wales, as well as being a triathlete.  Something that I was certainly impressed by.  What was great about this guy w

Tyler Vines Hudson Valley Photographer

I recently had a great chance to work with one of the nicest models here in Hudson Valley.  Everyone say hi to Tyler.  She’s an absolute blast to work with.  We wanted to create a few different looks.  I had been really digging the teal shadow look lately so that was one of the first things we worked on.  I love how it adds interesting edge light to the shadows when you use a teal fill.  This is a simple two light setup, where the side light is gelled.

We had a ton of fun working together.  Tyler and I have worked together before, once, at a big collaboration here in Hudson Valley, and Tyler has worked with my girlfriend a ton of times.  The great thing about tyler is that she has one of the prettiest faces I’ve ever s

Jillian Voege Model Portfolio Work

I recently did some test work for Wilhelmina Hudson Valley.  Everyone say hi to Jillian.  This was a pretty standard test shoot.  We wanted to get some good simple shots that could really add something special to her portfolio.  We actually setup this shoot pretty quickly.  I knew some great places around my studio that had fantastic light, and a few interesting features.  It allowed me to get some great shots for Jillian.  Jillian was a breeze to work with, super easy to pose, and I loved the emotions that she had on her face.  It was fun to work with her for sure.

Hudson Valley Corporate Photographer { Brandon G }

So a while ago I had the chance to work with this wonderful gentleman on some headshots.  I actually really enjoy doing corporate headshots, because I feel like if you don’t actually take the time to learn a little bit about the personality of the person you simply won’t get a good picture of them.  It’s always been clear to me that taking that extra 10 minutes if you have the time can make or break a shoot like this.

He was interested in getting some shots done, because he wanted something new and modern to put up on his website that he was building.  He was putting together marketing collateral to market himself as a sales speaker.  Which I certainly thought was cool.  I think
