I sure did have some fun this last weekend.  I went on a food shoot out.  Cooking and shooting.  I was surprised to find out how hard that actually is.  It takes time and patience to shoot food, it takes those same two things to cook it.  So shooting and cooking is quite a challenge.  My hat goes off to all you food bloggers out there.  I’m not sure how you do it all the time.  I would get annoyed and bored a bit to quickly and easily.  Alhtough I guess I didn’t just have one dish to shoot, I cooked up 3 dishes, and photographed all 3 of them.  which was certainly quite a challenge.

Well how was everyones holidays?  I hope you all had a great time, good food, and good friends.  I know I certainly did.  It wasn’t as long as I wanted, but honestly what vacation is.  I wanted to show off some recent shots I did of a rather nice little salad.  It’s a vinegrette dressing, with fresh spring greens, goat cheese crumbles, with walnuts and pecans.  The way that the goat cheese

Well at this point I would say that I’m just learning so much from shooting food.  It’s weird how complex it is, and how complicated it is to get a good looking appetizing shot.  Go on try it yourself.  You’ll see how hard it can be.  I know all of us portrait photographers thing that shooting something so static would be easy.  But it’s not.  So far the hardest thing is getting the li

Well it’s been a little bit since I’ve done a writeup for an engagement shoot.  I’ve just been so busy with work, and other stuff.  If you hadn’t noticed I’ve been trying to do a bit of food photography.  I think there is one other couple that I never did a blog writeup for,… I should really get on that.  Everyone say hey to Melanie and Josh.  I’m so happy I got a chance to work with this couple.  Man were they fun.  I had such a blast working

Well,… here are the fruits of my labor… O man was that a bad joke.  I’m a little embarrassed for myself at this point.  But no really, I for some reason had a blast shooting this little slice of lime.  He had so much character.  I setup this shot by hanging this little guy in a part of my house with a little window between the kitchen and the dining room with a bit of tippet.  For all you non fly fishermen, that’s basical

Well I guess you could say that this is my first foray into food photography.  I’m pretty excited about it too!  Like I said in a previous post I want to get more into food photography this winter.  It’s a goal of mine to really start having food photography be a part of my income from my photography business.  There are a ton of things I found out lat night by shooting this simple sandwich shot.  I realize that it’s not the greatest

Well winter is here, and seeing as how my business certainly slows down in the winter I’ve been thinking recently about some goals for my business the winter.  Winter time is rough for any photographer, not much going on with weddings, most couples don’t want to do engagement photography when it’s super cold

Hudson Valley Photographer { Commercial Business Headshots Dr. Gendel }

I recently had a chance to do some head-shots for a local psychiatrist for use on some local publications.  I really loved being able to learn from the experience and have a good chance to show off a few different ways in which you can get a business portrait, and some ways where you can make your head shots really pop.

I think my first caveat to getting some great business head shots is to make sure that you are using good off camera lighting.  Without off camera lighting you’re not going to get that nice soft light that

Hudson Valley Photographer { Urban Decay }

It’s certainly rare that I do a series.  I find when I go out shooting that most of the time I end up with one or two photographs that I really like and everything else is just not up to par.  So I went out recently with a theme in mind, and I wanted to try and put together a whole series of shots.  And look at my film on a whole, and come up with a much larger set of shots.

I had been doing a bit of location scouting and driving around a bunch of really weird locations to try and find something along the lines of urban decay.

Well I certainly am a little late in getting their shots up on my blog.  I’ve just been so busy with a ton of other things that I really haven’t had time to blog even when I want to.  Here’s my nice down to earth couple of the season.  Totally chill, no heels kinda girl.  I can certainly appreciate that.  Everyone say Hi to Jenna and Ross.

I actually did their shoot almost a month ago, but I haven’t had time to write about it, because I’ve been really busy at work lately.  I ended up going on a big trip to Vegas, for work, which ha
