Food Photographer in Denver Walnut Salad

First off if you’re looking for a Food Photographer in Denver check out my portfolio.

Well how was everyones holidays?  I hope you all had a great time, good food, and good friends.  I know I certainly did.  It wasn’t as long as I wanted, but honestly what vacation is.  I wanted to show off some recent shots I did of a rather nice little salad.  It’s a vinegrette dressing, with fresh spring greens, goat cheese crumbles, with walnuts and pecans.  The way that the goat cheese and craisins work together is just awesome.  It’s such a good starter that really can go with almost about anything, and it’s super easy to make.  I also added a rasberry and some blackberries for presentation.

Well at this point I would say that I’m just learning so much from shooting food.  It’s weird how complex it is, and how complicated it is to get a good looking appetizing shot.  Go on try it yourself.  You’ll see how hard it can be.  I know all of us portrait photographers thing that shooting something so static would be easy.  But it’s not.  So far the hardest thing is getting the lighting and the setting right.  And lately I’ve been studying a lot of lighting.  I think that if I get the lighting nailed then that’s like 75% of the battle.  The funny thing is that the lighting seems to be really complex on some of my favorite food shots.

Denver Food Photography Lime Light

Well,… here are the fruits of my labor… O man was that a bad joke.  I’m a little embarrassed for myself at this point.  But no really, I for some reason had a blast shooting this little slice of lime.  He had so much character.  I setup this shot by hanging this little guy in a part of my house with a little window between the kitchen and the dining room with a bit of tippet.  For all you non fly fishermen, that’s basically fishing line.  I had a shoot through umbrella camera left in the first picture, and I had it really close to the lime so i could get a good delineation between the lime and the background.

Well I guess you could say that this is my first foray into food photography.  I’m pretty excited about it too!  Like I said in a previous post I want to get more into food photography this winter.  It’s a goal of mine to really start having food photography be a part of my income from my photography business.  There are a ton of things I found out lat night by shooting this simple sandwich shot.  I realize that it’s not the greatest picture, and certainly I have a lot to learn, but damn it’s fun to be able to do a photo shoot in my house without having to brave the cold.

Commercial Photography Denver Headshot

First off if you’re looking for a Denver Photographer check out my main website.

I recently had a chance to do some head-shots for a local psychiatrist for use on some local publications.  I really loved being able to learn from the experience and have a good chance to show off a few different ways in which you can get a business portrait, and some ways where you can make your head shots really pop.
